Prologue
“Three.......!”
The sound blasted over the intercom of the race track. The crowd waited with baited breath.
“Two.........!”
The twelve drivers grasped the wheels and joysticks of their racing cars.
“One.........!”
The commentator stepped closer to the microphone he stood in front of.
“GO!!!!!!!”
The twelve racing vehicles zoomed away from the start line. A small, light hover bike shot in front of the others. A huge bulldozer like truck clipped the back of the bike, and the driver of the truck hit a button.
A dangerous looking blade darted out of the left hand light, and swung at the bike rider.
The crowd gasped as the bike rider pulled sharply to the left, and flipped up the edge of the ramp to the side.
He landed back down, and his engine stalled. He stamped the starter, and the bike roared to life, but he had already lost six positions.
He zoomed away from the bike behind him, and gunned the engine.
The vehicle in front of him, a buggy kind of hovercraft veered in front of him, blocking his entrance. The bike rider swung to the right, but the buggy, being a lot wider, blocked its path again.
The crowd booed as the buggy’s driver dropped a mine out of the side of the window, but the hover bike’s driver zipped away past it.
A scooter kind of hovercraft behind the second bike exploded, and debris hit the truck behind it.
A stack up occurred, and the last six vehicles were out of the race. The buggy driver grinned at the carnage he had caused, but the smile was wiped off his race when the bike rider sped past him, and he fell into sixth, or last, place.
The hover bike rider gunned the accelerator again, and zoomed towards the boat like vehicle in fourth place. The boat driver saw the bike in his rear view mirror, and pressed a small green button on his dash board.
A minigun appeared between the back two wheels of the boat, and opened fire at the bike.
The bike rider darted crazily between the bullet shots, trying desperately not to be hit. A sudden bump behind him warned him that the buggy driver had rammed his bike.
Trapped between two huge vehicles, the bike rider did the only thing he could. He hit a large trigger on the front of the bike, and a massive spout of flame burst from the tail end of the hovercraft.
The bike sprang forward, and zipped niftily around the boat, leaving the buggy and it to fight it out for fifth place.
The force of the rocket pack left the bike driver in the hands of Luck, a dangerous thing on the race course, but Luck smiled on him, for the blasting fire sped him past a huge truck like hovercraft into third place.
The bulldozer hovercraft and another bike hovercraft were throwing everything they had at each other in an effort to gain first place. First the bike spiked one of the six wheels of the bulldozer, but it drove on regardless, and then the driver of the bulldozer allowed the bike to pass him, before opening fire with a hull mounted flamethrower.
The second bike rider screamed, and tumbled to a halt, while the first bike rider sped past. Now it was just him and the bulldozer. He breathed a sigh of relief when the rocket boost stopped, and he stealthy zipped right up to the back of the truck.
The bulldozer veered left, and some of its yellow paint scratched off as it hit the safety wall. The bike screeched right, but the bulldozer had hoped for this, and swerved towards the small vehicle.
The bike rider swore, and flipped a small pistol off his belt. He lined up the bulldozer’s fifth and fourth wheels, and opened fire.
Both wheels exploded, and the bulldozer swung out of control. It barrelled head first into the safety wall, and the cabin caved in.
The bike rider continued on, and glanced back for a second to see buggy and the boat he had left behind speeding side by side up the tarmac towards him. He cussed and gunned the accelerator.
The roaring of the crowd filled his ears as he zoomed towards the finish line, but a rocket flew past his head!
The boat and the buggy had both fired rockets at him, and he hit the accelerator as hard as he could. He saw a rocket fly right past his ear, and smoke filled his helmet. He coughed, and his eyes stung. The rockets were filled with teargas!
He approached the finish line, blind and choking. A rocket hit the ground right below him, and he was flung into the air. His bike came with him, and he crashed to the ground a few meters across the end line.
The crowd went crazy, and the boat and buggy flew over the finish line either side of him. He saw them salute him before coming to a halt.
It hit him. He had won. He had won the most dangerous sport on the planet, and the galaxy. He had won his first HoverRace.
